Ahead of NAAC visit, JU busy in painting rosy picture of campus 9/26/2016 11:28:31 PM Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 26: To hoodwink a team of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), the officials at Jammu University under the leadership of Vice Chancellor are busy to paint a rosy picture of the campus. According to sources, NAAC is visiting the Jammu University to assess and accredits institutions of higher education in India. It is autonomous body funded by University Grants Commission of Government of India established in the year 1994. It follows seven criteria to serve as the basis for its assessment procedures which is curricular aspects, teaching, learning and evaluation, research, consultancy and extension, infrastructure and learning resources, student support and progression, organization and management, healthy practice. Taking dig at the working of the present Vice Chancellor, sources maintained that two years tenure of the present head is marked as dark period of the higher education in Jammu, having earned the dubious distinction of adopting anti-academic and anti student policies. "What to talk about quality education, even imparting instructions to students carries no relevance," said sources, adding "if the examinations are not held and results not declared within the stipulated time period as enshrined in rules and statutes of the university." Source said that university of Jammu has utterly failed to tone up the examination wing which is awfully lacking to stick to the schedule of holding examinations and declaring results on time which is the basic requirement directly concerned with the academic career of the students who feel cheated at the hands of university authorities. If sources are to be believed, the standard of education is meaningless for some of the faculty, especially in the Distance Education Department. "It can be gauged from the fact that some of the faculty members have made the university premises as an arena of merriment during working hours at the cost of academic pursuits of students, sources alleged adding that there is no exclusive mechanism put in place by the varsity to lodge complaint and its redressal in a time bound manner nor is there any accountability of teaching fraternity which indulge into activities inimical to quality education and interests of students in the varsity.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
