SRINAGAR, Sept 27: A stone pelting incident in an area of summer capital of the state led to the death of a girl while as her sister sustained injuries during the same incident. In the meantime, a person sustained injuries after miscreants pelted stones on him in the Eidgah area.
Reports said that a group of youth appeared on the main road in the Parimpora area and started pelting stones on the police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel. The stone pelting led to chaos in the area and the movement of private vehicles was badly hampered in the Parimpora as well as adjacent areas.
While there was disturbance in the area driver of a Scorpio got nervous and started to move his vehicle in the reverse direction. The driver did not know that two sisters were walking to the rear side of the Scorpio. The vehicle hit both the girls and both of them sustained grievous injuries in the incident.
Both the girls were shifted to a hospital where one of them succumbed to her injuries. She has been identified as Fozia while as her sister's name is Nadia. The incident led to shock among the people with the residents registering their protest although in a subtle manner.
In a separate incident a person sustained injuries after he was hit by stones during stone pelting incident near the Aali Masjid, Eidgah area. The person identified as Furqan Hamid was shifted to Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura where his condition is said to be stable.
A police spokesman said that stone pelting led to death of a young girl today morning when she along with her sister was hit by a vehicle near Parimpora, Srinagar. The vehicle was moving backwards and hit the girls as it came under stone pelting by miscreants, said the spokesman.
"The girls were identified as Fozia and Nadia daughters of Mohammad Sidiq Lone resident of Gulbagh-Parimpora. They were hit by a Cream coloured Scorpio near Rogan Gali, Parimpora. The driver while moving his vehicle backwards hit the girls as his vehicle was stoned by the miscreants," said the police spokesman.
The spokesman said that girls were critically injured in the incident. Both the injured were shifted to hospital where elder sister namely Fozia succumbed to her injuries. A case FIR number 222/16 has been registered and investigation has been taken up, he said.
"One person namely Furqan Hamid son of Abdul Hamid resident of Zoonimar was injured when miscreants pelted stones on him while he was riding a Scooty near Aali Masjid, Eidgah. He received injury in his head. The injured person has been shifted to SKIMS Soura for treatment, where his condition is stable," said the spokesman.
Meanwhile, according to a statement issued by Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir, the situation remained by and large normal and peaceful today although a couple of stray stone pelting incidents were reported. The statement said that an incident of arson was reported from Kulgam this afternoon adding that miscreants in their attempt to disturb the situation set on fire a Panchayat Ghar at village Kujar in Kulgam district.
The statement said that in its continuous efforts to curb the activities of trouble mongers police arrested 51 miscreants during past 24 hours who were involved in different offences of causing disturbance in the situation in the valley.
