'Fake Degree Scam in Forest Department'

Jammu, Sept 27: The higher authorities of Forest department are allegedly trying their best to shield over 150 beneficiaries' of 'Fake Promotion' Scam that was unearthed by Early Times recently.
According to sources, taking cognizance Early Times reports, in an attempt to eye wash whistleblowers within the department the office of Chief Conservator of Forest Jammu had directed all Divisional Forest Officers of Jammu region to get verified the degrees from issuing authorities in the month of July. "Since the day, the order was issued by CCF, nothing has been done. In his order, the CCF had advised the all DFOs to get verified degree certificates from issuing authorities and also had directed all concerned officials to attended the office of CCF Jammu on any working day", sources said, adding that the order was issued by the CCF on July 20.
"After lapse of over two months nothing has been done, the higher authorities, who directed subordinate staff to get degree certificate verified were aware about mass promotion given on the basis of fake degrees", they said.
They further said that everyone in the department was aware that over 150 officers had obtained degrees from Vinayka Mission University through distance mode. "Moreover, the J&K Government, does not recognize degrees obtained through distance mood from outside the state", they said, and alleged that an organized promotion mafia has monopolized the forest department.
"Presently, the officers upto the rank of DFO have managed to get themselves elevated in connivance with the mafia within the department", they added.
They further said that Foresters and Range Officers are the backbone and executive posts to implement the policies of Forest Department at ground level. "Unfortunately, there are some Forester and Rangers, who cannot even read or write", sources claimed, and added that a thorough investigation, needs to be done from an independent agency to unearth blacksheep in the department.
