Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sept 28: The state government is likely to lift the ban on night travel on Srinagar-Jammu national highway soon. Sources said as the situation is slowly limping back to normal the decision to keep the Jawahar tunnel open for 24-hours would be taken soon.
The government has limited the travel on Jammu-Srinagar highway with closure of Jawahar tunnel for night travel.
The vehicles are not allowed to ply from5pm to 9am.
The sources said this was a precautionary measure as many elements were trying to infuse tension and used to target the vehicles moving in the night as they were easy targets.
The decision had limited the traffic and thus took the sting off the stone-pelters as they couldn't find the 'target' and slowly their daily remittance for disruption and creating law and order problem started drying up.
"We planned this strategy as it was one of the measures to dry up the sources of funding and finding targets as without finding any target they (miscreants) were not getting paid and slowly with exhaustion also setting in it helped in slowly turning around the situation," said the official.
Sources said the decision would be reviewed as many people who are now increasingly turning against the stone pelters are also feeling the pinch because of the limitations on the travel.
"We know that many parents have shifted their wards to the Jammu and they are feeling the pinch of this decision. These are the people for whom decision was taken and we want them to be on the side of the government. We want them on our side so the decision will be reviewed soon," said the official/.
According to the sources the Ministry of Home Affairs would seek a detailed report from the state government it will then get it verified from its own central agencies and then a decision would be taken with the consultation of the state government.
