Jammu, Sept 29: To spread awareness among the common public about cardiovascular disease and motivate them to live with healthy heart Dr. Sushil K. Sharma, Head of Cardiology Department, Government Medical College and Super Specialty, Jammu today joined millions others in the world to celebrate "World Heart Day".
Stressing on this year's theme 'Power Your Life", Dr. Sushil Sharma said fuel your heart, move your heart and love your heart for healthy living. He pointed out that heart diseases are increasing globally because of high consumption of tobacco, alcohol, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, physical inactivity, sedentary lifestyle, stress, diabetes, unhealthy diets and various other reasons.
Speaking on the occasion of World Heart day, Dr. Sushil Sharma observed that Cardiac problems are no longer restricted to towns or to the aged. "Heart problems are undoubtedly the number one giant killer and every year more than 17.5 million people die due to cardiac disease around the globe and India has the unhealthy reputation of being the capital of the world in heart problems", he added.
Renowned cardiologist Dr Mohan Lal (Former Head) gave an account of advances which cardiac science has made during the last decade. He said that heart diseases are lifestyle diseases and can be tackled well by changes in one's lifestyle. You can change the course the life by simply deciding not to violate when it comes to requirements of human body. A little change in the lifestyle could increase add several years to your life and continuing to violate the dietary requirements could have catastrophic results." He applauded the efforts of Department of Cardiology for maintain high standards of patient care in the state.
Dr Gurjit Singh renowned Cardiac Surgeon said that "Even those who are suffering from cardiac ailments especially Coronary Artery Disease need not to give up but understand that lifestyle modification could change their life for all times to come.
Speaking in the same vein, Dr. S.K. Bali (Nephrologist ) and Dr Noor Ali (Head Cardiac Surgery) stressed the role of physical activity in mitigating the prevalence of heart diseases. Doing simple exercise for at least 30 minutes in a day is sufficient in attenuating the risks of cardiovascular diseases.
