Pak is 'mother-ship of terrorism': PM Modi
Significant shift
10/16/2016 11:07:26 PM
ET Report
JAMMU, Oct 16: It is now almost clear. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attitude towards Pakistan has completely changed. There are potent reasons to believe that there would be no talks between India and Pakistan in the foreseeable future. The relations have turned so sore and bitter.
It all started on August 15, when the Prime Minister announced from the ramparts of Red Fort that PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan were Indian and will be retrieved and that India would rake up the issue of human rights violations in Balochistan in a big way. Stung by what PM Modi said, Pakistan intensified its anti-India activities and the climax was the September 18 Uri attack, which resulted in the martyrdom of our 19 soldiers, two from Jammu itself.
The Uri changed the whole scenario and India avenged the martyrdom on September 29 by conducting successfully surgical strikes across the LoC and inside PoJK and liquidating at least 35 terrorists and destroying at least 7 terror launching pads. The surgical strikes by the Indian Army further changed the country's whole scenario. The people appreciated the Army's splendid feat and enhanced the stature of PM Modi. He had to take some concrete action against Pakistan to assuage the hurt feelings of the Indian nation and he did that.
That the Indian foreign policy towards Pakistan has changed and that India now considers Pakistan its biggest enemy could be seen from what PM Modi said at Lucknow on October 12, At Bhopal, two days later and in Goa, on Sunday.
At Lucknow, the PM said that terrorism was not a law and order issue, that it was a menace which had to be eliminated and that sometimes circumstances forced war. His target was clear and it was Pakistan.
At Bhopal, PM Modi said Army was for India and his government was with the Army and the Indian nation must salute our soldiers wherever they were be at the railway station and be at the airport.
And on Sunday, the PM sent a strong message to Pakistan from Goa, saying that it was the mother-ship of terrorism.
PM Modi's characterization of Pakistan - done without naming the country - as the mother-ship came during the Leaders' Restricted Meeting, the first formal engagement of the 8th BRICS Summit+ that is underway in Goa.
"The growing arc of terrorism today threatens the Middle East, West Asia, Europe and South Asia. Its violent footprints put at risk the security of our citizens and undercuts our efforts aimed at economic growth," said PM Modi, sitting at a circular table with the presidents of Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa.
The PM Modi's latest epithet will stick. It would rattle Pakistan and it would also rattle Kashmiri leaders of all hues, including separatists and leaders like Farooq Abdullah.
There is no doubt that the latest statement of the PM on Pakistan and terrorism has thrilled the nation and strategic affairs experts in general and the nationalists people of the state in particular for obvious reasons.
