Jammu, Oct 20 : First Additional Sessions Judge, Jammu, M A Chowdhary has rejected the bail application of a heroin smuggler. Applicant Abdul Latief was apprehended by police along with one Mandeep Singh from Dogra Chowk here on September 1, 2016. While Latief allegedly possessed 9 gms of heroin, Mandeep had 6 gms. After they failed to explain any justifiable reason for possessing the contraband, they were booked under sections 8/21/22 of NDPS Act. The court, after hearing the APP, observed that cases against drug peddlers 'indicate inter-state drug rackets have been targeting school kids as well. The illicit drugs have a high addiction potential and there is a gradual increase in their intake, getting the users dependent on them, both physically and psychologically'. "The compulsive drug seeking and use, on addiction, causes chronic brain disease changing the brain, its structure and how it works. The deadly menace, a major problem for society, requires to be checked through strengthening the reinforcement", the judge said. With these observations, he rejected the bail application of Latief (26), son of Abdul Gani.(JNF) |
