BSF foils major infiltration bid, militants tried for forceful intrusion: BSF IGP

Kathua, Oct 20: BSF troops today successfully foiled a major infiltration bid by a group of six militants after a heavy fire-fight using Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs) along the International Border in Kathua district.
According to BSF sources, a group of four-six militants tried to sneak into Indian side and attacked a vehicle carrying troops on patrolling with RPGs followed by heavy and indiscriminate firing at forward area Bobiya in Kathua around 2345 hours. "The militants also fired upon BSF vehicle patrolling the borderline at around 2355 during the exchange of fire, they added.
Giving details, BSF Spokesperson said, "On the night intervening 19/20 alert troops of BSF foiled a forced infiltration bid under cover of cross border firings from Pakistan side in Hiranagar Sector, District Samba, Jammu."
"Last night, movement of a group of terrorists was noticed in Pakistan side of International Boundary, he said adding, " Their movement was kept under watch by alert BSF troops."
"At about 2345 hours, the group of heavily armed terrorists was again spotted by alert BSF troops close to International Boundary in Pakistan sides where they reached taking advantage of undulating ground and thick wild growth, he added.
Meanwhile, all nearby BSF duty and Army as well as Police deployed in depth were also alerted, he said, adding, "at about 2355 hrs, militants fired two RPG shells aiming BSF night patrol vehicle in the area followed by heavy volume of fire from automatic weapons towards patrolling party and BSF duty points." Alert BSF troops on duty points without caring their personal safety and security boldly organized coordinated effective fire but also over them not only to suppress their fire but also created havoc among terrorists which not only pinned them down but forced to retreat, alert BSF troops foiled the attempted Forced Infiltration Bid of heavily armed terrorists from Pakistan by giving them a befitting reply." "During illumination of Para bomb fire, it was clearly seen by BSF troops that four terrorists were fleeing and also dragging one of their injured or killed person," he added
Meanwhile IG-BSF DK Upadaya accompanied with DIG Police Shakur Wani and SSP Kathua Pawan Parihar visited border area of Hiranagar sector and reviewed security arrangement along International border. The officers reviewed Indian picket at Bobiya wherein BSF has foiled infiltration bid. IG-BSF said, "BSF is ready to face any challenge and has potentiality to give strong response to any misadventure from the other militants and is competent to handle any odd situation along border" The Sr BSF officer also condemned ceasefire violation and suggested Pakistan to follow the ceasefire treaty aimed to restore peace in the border areas.
