| Rabble-rousers rake up Ram Temple issue | | |
Whenever some states go in for
Assembly elections the issue per
taining to the rebuilding of Ram Temple surfaces. This is what has happened these days as some states go in for polls, especially Uttar Pradesh. In fact since 1992,when the Babri Masjid was demolished, rebuilding of the Ram Temple has assumed new dimensions. At times it assumes communal overtones. Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections due in 2017, BJP senior leader Subramanian Swamy has said the Ram temple is part of the BJP 2014 manifesto, adding that it is the party's obligation to the people to keep the promise."The Ram issue is a part of our manifesto in 2014, how can we run away from it? We have to deliver," Swamy has stated. Swamy said the matter could not be resolved forcibly, but the Supreme Court needed to take some action as the matter is pending for the past six years.
"Now it's time for the matter to be heard and disposed of and the Muslim party is also agreeable for the hearing. Swamy has decided to file an application on this main matter seeking the court to issue notice to the government. As soon as the news circulated that Swamy was knocking the doors of the Apex Court for hearing the case , the Congress accused the BJP of selling the name of Lord Ram to siphon off a victory in Uttar Pradesh.
"The Congress has nothing to do with the BJP constructing a museum there (Ayodhya), or the Samajwadi Party organising things for the Ramayana mela. The BJP is selling the name of Ram in the wake of the coming UP polls," said Congress leader DP Singh.
Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Katiyar, on the other hand, asked the BJP-led Central government to intensify its efforts to construct the Ram temple in Ayodhya instead of giving 'lollipop' (Ram museum). It's a big mistake; effort should be made to construct the Ram temple; this "lollipop" (handing over Ramayana Museum as lollipop to please the people who are demanding the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya) won't work. People ask when will be the Ram temple constructed? This (Ramayana Museum) is a lollipop, it doesn't have much importance, and thus, they should act accordingly. The issue of Ram temple construction has added to the woes of Modi who is already engaged in various problems of the country. The biggest problem is trying to resolve is the problem of terror that is being exported from Pakistan.
Why should political leaders rake up the issue of construction of Ram Temple at Ayodhya and that too during the poll season ? This means Ram Temple does carry some emotions among the people.A plea by BJP leader Swamy to rebuild Ram Temple at the Ram Janam Bhoomi site where Kar sevaks destroyed Babri Masjid in 1992 will be heard by the Supreme Court alongwith appeals challenging a 2010 Alllahabad High Court decision fixing the exact birth place of Lord Ram at the disputed Ayodhya site. The best alternative was to build temple, mosque, Gurdwara and Church with separate entrance. These places of worship should be build side by side in a row so that those who want tovisit the Gurdwara they could after visiting the Ram Temple. That could have been the only option involving no controversy and no tension. Yes, there may be other sects who may demand construction of a Jain temple if such a demand come forward let the management build a Jain temple. And let there be a common management comprising reputed people from Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Muslims and Jains. |
