Early Times Report Katra, Oct 21: One Day Workshop on "Patent Drafting and Filing" was organized by Department of Biotechnology, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra in collaboration with Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India on 20th October, 2016. The Workshop was chaired by Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, who in his Inaugural Address stressed upon the importance of knowledge for technical aspects of Patent Filing and the procedures, which is an integral part of technological research. He appreciated that the Faculty and Research Scholars of SMVDU have highly innovative patentable ideas and their participation in the Workshop will be useful to enrich the status of the University at International level by claiming rights for such technologies. The Coordinator of the Workshop Prof. V. Verma, Head, Department of Biotechnology and Dean Faculty of Engineering in his opening remarks highlighted the need for seeking Intellectual Property Rights in scientific research so that we do not forego on traditional information that has been transferred down from the Guru-Shishya system. He gave examples of how CSIR has been able to claim rights globally for traditional uses of medicinal plants like Neem, Ashwagandha, etc. In the first Technical Session, Prof Prabhat Ranjan, Executive Director, TIFAC; Guest of Honour for the occasion spoke in detail about the Technology Vision 2035 prepared by TIFAC for seeking protective rights on varied fields of Science and Technology. He also showcased some of the latest upcoming technologies that would be available to the common man by 2020. Dr Aruna Tiwary, IPR Scientist, PFC, TIFAC; spoke about Patent Information and its Accessibility describing the nitty-gritty of doing a patent search and drafting the same. During the second Technical Session, Prof. H. S. Chawla, Prof. & Head, Genetics and Plant Breeding, G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology briefed the participants about the various methods for Management of Intellectual Property Rights. |
