Death toll reaches 90 as youth dies in Budgam | Valley turmoil | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 21: The death toll in the more than three month long Kashmir violence reached 90 as a youth died in mysterious circumstances in the Central Kashmir Budgam's district today. While the people say that the youth died to a teargas shell police said that he died due to cardiac arrest. Reports said that a group of youth appeared on the main road in the Nasrullahpora area in Budgam district and started protesting against police and security forces personnel. The agitated youth raised slogans against the police and security forces personnel and alleged that innocents have been killed over the past three months in the valley. The agitated youth resorted to stone pelting on police and security forces personnel with the same being retaliated by the lobbing of smoke shells. The teargas shelling led to panic among the people who were carrying out the protest and some of them sustained injuries. One of the injured persons identified as Junaid Ahmad Mir succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. As soon as the news about the death of Junaid broke out people came out in protest in Nasrullahpora and adjacent areas. They protested against the action of police and security forces personnel. Groups of agitated youth also pelted stones on Rashtriya Rifles camp in Daharmunah village and the same continued till late in the evening. Reports said that protests broke out in Barzulla area in Srinagar while as protests were also reported from some areas in Central, South and North Kashmir. Protests broke out in some of the localities in Pulwama, Anantnag, Dooru, Baramulla and Sopore areas. Police and security forces personnel lobbed smoke shells in order to disperse the people carrying out the protests in these areas. A police spokesman said that today in the afternoon one person namely Junaid Ahmad Mir son of Fateh Mir resident of Nasrullahpora-Budgam was brought to JVC Bemina, Srinagar where the doctors declared him brought dead. As per doctors prima facie he has died of cardiac arrest as there are no marks of any injury on his body. The spokesman said that barring a few stray incidents of stone pelting, situation across the valley remained by and large peaceful today till filling of this report. As a preventive measure restrictions were imposed in some parts of Srinagar. "Last evening some unknown militants fired upon one Mohammad Aamir Bhat son of Mohammad Younis resident of Cheirmarg in the jurisdiction of Police Station Zainapora, Shopian near his home, resulting in injury on his right thigh. He was shifted to District Hospital Anantnag for treatment where from he was referred to SKIMS Soura, Srinagar for further treatment. Shopian police has registered a case in this regard," said the spokesman. The spokesman said that continuing its sustained drive against miscreants/hooligans found involved in disrupting public order in different parts of the valley, police has arrested 72 more such people during past 24 hours. |
