Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 22: The BJP led NDA Government has denied its responsibility for boycotting the artists from Pakistan, including actors and singers.A situation has risen when some filmmakers are expected to suffer heavy losses because Cinema Owners Association have announced that films in which Pak actors have some role to play will not be screened in their cinemas.Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu has said the government had no role in the move to boycott Pakistani artistes or interfered with Indian film-makers who hire them, but there is an atmosphere of anger at Pakistan in India and people from all walks of life have to be mindful of it.
Naidu said: "Public opinion in India is strongly against Pakistan aiding and funding terror. Everyone should keep that in mind and act accordingly, whether he is an artiste, director or producer, businessman or even a politician... It is very simple to say art has no boundaries, but countries [do] have boundaries...When a war is taking place, you have someone doing a drama with that country, that is not expected. He also asked the media to keep "national interest" in mind.
"The media should understand what is in national interest... A journalist or a TV anchor, , is basically a citizen of India. Every citizen has a responsibility to the country. Keep that in mind and do whatever you want to do, there is no restriction... no guidelines have been issued.
Naidu said people calling for a boycott of Pakistani actors and those giving them work were from the same film industry. Well if one does believe Naidu one should have every reason to feel surprised. It is so because the Government should have intervened and decided to mediate between the Pak artists and the filmmakers.
Well there are many Indians who have opposed ban on Pak artists and actors and singers from getting a role in the films produced in India. These Indians have been saying that artists are not terrorists.Naidu should remember that groups of militants sneak into the Kashmir valley and Jammu under the cover of fire provided by Pakistani troops. Those who sneak clandestinely are terrorists but actors and singers from Pakistan enter into India on the basis of genuine travel documents.
Naidu is making people in India conscious about the negative role of Pak actors and singers.Assuming that there is anger in India against Pakistan for exporting terror to the Indian soil but this level of anger could have possibly mellowed had the cinemagoers been able to watch an Indian actor kissing Mahira. The level of anger could have vanished if the cinemagoers watch a movie with actors and actresses from Pakistan running round the tree and singing songs to the delight of the masses.
The level of anger could have vanished had people in India been allowed to listen to RahatFateh Ali Khan,AtifAslam or Ghulam Ali.Through art in the form of pictures, songs, acting and other items one could watch gradual promotion of cordial ties between the two pugnacious nations.
If art has no boundaries it is Art that can demolish walls of hatred.Let India practice it by intervening in favour of artists, actors and singers from Pakistan. Though poet Iqbal developed sympathy for Pakistan but his song "SareJehan se Acha Hindustan Hamara, written 75 years ago, is still alive and is creating sensation among the listeners. Those who feel inspired by this song forget whether it was written by a Muslim or by a Pakistani.Let art surpass walls of hatred and demolish artificial borders.
