Yet another school building gutted in mysterious fire | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 22: Yet another school building went in mysterious flames in the Kashmir valley, where government is adamant to hold 10th and 12th class examinations while the students are demanding postponement of all examinations since all the educational institutions remained closed due to unrest during the past more than three months. Official sources said fire broke out in Government Higher Secondary School Bugam in south Kashmir district of Kulgam late last night. However, the locals immediately informed the fire brigade and joined the fire control operation. The school building suffered major damage, they said adding it was not immediately clear how the building caught fire when there is no activites as students stayed away in response to separatist strike call since July 09, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two other militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag. Police has registered a case and initiated proceedings, they said. About half a dozen schools were gutted in the Kashmir valley since the eruption of protests during which 86 persons, mostly youths, were killed and about 10000 others were wounded in security force and police action. The injured included some students who have lost their both eyes or one after hit by pellets fired by security forces and police. Despite massive protests by students, demanding postponement of examinations till March alleging that they have not completed even half of their syllabus, the government had announced to go ahead with 10th and 12th class examinations next month. |
