Day of Accession of J&K with Indian union should be observed: Prof Gupta
10/23/2016 12:15:41 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 22: The former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has termed it as a good suggestion that the Day of Accession of Jammu and Kashmir with Indian union should be observed at large scale to enlighten the younger generation about the fact of history and nail the canards being spread by the elements hostile to India and their stooges in Kashmir.
Interacting with a group of students of history, Prof. Gupta said that Maharaja of the State, Hari Singh using his legal authority, had signed the same Instrument of Accession which was signed by 558 other princes of the country.
This document was signed by the Maharaja on October 26, 1947, and it was accepted by Governor General of India, Lord Mountbaten, the next day i.e 27 October. This followed the landing of the Indian troops at Srinagar, who launched their operations to push back the invaders of new born theocratic state of Pakistan. Though the document signed by the Maharaja was in accordance with the law for Independence of India, the interim Government of State led by Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah framed their constituent Assembly which ratified the Accession as per the condition laid by the Governor General to ascertain the wishes of the people. About the much talked UN resolution of January 5, 1949, Prof. Gupta pointed out that for holding plebiscite in Kashmir very first condition of this resolution was that Pakistan should vacate the occupied areas of the state but it was not done. Instead of going by the resolution, the invaders resorted to massacres and forcing the migration of minorities. Because of planed barbarities no family belonging to these communities could be found there although they formed over 35 percent of the population before the invasion of this State. Thus, whole demographic character was changed. Not to say of vacating the occupied areas, the Pak Army have constructed there large number of bunkers and cantonments of permanent nature, he added and said that in POK several structures have been there for benefit of Pakistan. These also include the massive Mangla Dam because of which the entire historic City of Mirpur and hundreds of villages have submerged under waters, and lakhs of local people were thus forced to migrate abroad in Gulf and other Countries.' Prof. Gupta also said that several camps for training ultras and breeding of cross border terror, have been set up there. Thus, he maintained that aggressor Pakistan has virtually come to be a rogue country which should be exposed and its agents dealt with firmly.
He said the Government should also consider the demand for observance of the "Accession Day" at the official level, because of the lies being spread by the separatists in Kashmir, although such elements were confined to only some areas of the Valley alone, whereas the State is comprising of vast areas like Jammu, Ladakh and others.
