Early Times Report

jammu, Oct 24: J&K Ex-Services League like every year is celebrating Accession Day and pay homage to Brig Rajinder Singh, MVC "The Saviour of Kashmir" and recipient of first Gallantry Award of Independent India at Jammu on 26 Oct 2016.
This year Shradanjali is special as we are also paying homage to his comrades who had laid down their lives with him at Uri front while defending the State from 23 - 27 Oct 1947.
We are also paying homage to 19 martyrs of 6 Bihar and 10 Dogra who were martyred on 18 Sep 2016 and also all the martyrs who have laid down their lives in J&K during the period from 26 Oct 2015 to 26 Oct 2016 which will become a regular feature from this year.
Names of the martyrs of Oct 1947 will be engraved on a Marble Slab.
We appreciate Prime Minister's advice while inaugurating the Shaurya Memorial in Bhopal that the Nation should salute the soldiers wherever they are. The J&K Ex-Services League is already doing this since 1985 starting with Brig Rajinder Singh's Memorial at his native place Rajinderpura till 2000 when his Birth Centenary was celebrated throughout the State inaugurated by the then Defence Minister George Fernandis of NDA when he promised that Brig Rajinder Singh did not only change the history but also the geography of the sub-continent for which as requested by the people of the state, his Award of MVC will be upgraded to PVC which is still pending. Hopefully NDA Govt. will now honour the commitment. Here is an opportunity to follow the Prime Minister's appeal to the Nation to send Diwali greetings to the soldiers by joining on this unique function held at Brig Rajinder Singh Chowk, behind New Secretariat Jammu every year where Army Commanders from both the Commands, Northern and Western command from Siachen to Delhi, J&K Govt. officials, members of the civil society and the veterans pay homage to the martyrs and convey their gratitude to the armed forces who are protecting our borders day and night. Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, President of the J&K Ex-Services League has appealed to the members of the civil society and the veterans to celebrate the Accession Day by lighting candles wherever they are on 26 Oct and also join us on 26 Oct 2016 at 10:30 AM at Brig Rajinder Singh Chowk, Jammu to pay homage to Brig Rajinder Singh, the Architect of Accession which was executed by Maharaja Hari Singh.
