The word Peer-Gali itself indicates that it has some auspicious relevance, because the word peer means a person devoted to religion according to Muslim faith. This holy place Peer- Gali is situated between two villages Poshana and Heer Pur along Mughal road. Peer-Gali is more likely to be called as heart of Mughal road. The history of this place dates back to the time of a holy and religiously elevated person named as Alam Daar-e- Kashmir Sheikh Noor-u- Din Noorani (1378t o 1441).
As per written records, this place got its name because of a converted Hindu saint Sheikh Ahmed Karim. Barnier Francois a most famous French physician and traveller who happened to visit this place along with caravan of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb while going to Kashmir from Lahore in 1665 wrote that saint was living here from the times of Mughal king Jehangir This saint could perform miracles by producing horrible voices. He could also bring storms along with hail stone and Snow. He was an old white bearded man he ordered the people not to create noise in this calm place of God, move silently and also demand offerings from them. Bernier Francois further wrote that he happened to met him inside his place of Meditation and told by him that Mughal king Aurangzeb and Shahjahan were wise enough as they crossed this calm place Of God very calmly unlike Jehangir as a result of it he faced dangerous results.
The whole population of state still considered Sheikh Ahmed Karim as a saint of high value not in ancient times but even now he has been called for help when ever people caught in heavy storms and it is said that he always come to help the needy. Sheikh Ahmed Karim is also considered as living saint. Once Sheikh Ahmed Karim was meditating before his being converted to Muslim faith he has been visited by a mother who has lost her son saint said her to go forward and search her son, your son might be coming accordingly the lady searched but failed she was again ordered by the saint to search this time. She got her son all this has been watched by Sheikh Noorani .He came to this Hindu saint and invited him to accept Islam as his faith so that he may reach heaven records says that saint refused and challenged Alam dare Kashmir that he could reach heaven with conversion to another religion Sheikh Noor-u- din Noonani accepted the challenge and demanded for a water melon from heaven with conversion to another religion. Sheikh Noor-u-Din accepted the challenge and demanded for a water melon from heaven. Both started their journey to heaven .But before entering inside heaven Sheikh Ahmed Karim have to accept Islam as faith. According to challenge he succeeded in bringing water melon but before he left the heaven the branch of water melon was taken by watch man of heaven When both appeared before each other and after the clearance of facts that watchman of heaven was none other than but Sheikh Noor-u- din Noorani .Holy Hindu saint accepted Islam as his faith and later named as Sheikh Ahmed Karim .He also requested to Sheikh Noorani to pray for his ever lasting life and no death Sheikh Noorani prayed to God and as a result Sheikh Ahmed Karim is still being considered as living saint.
