Early Times Report
rajouri, Oct 24: In a brazen violation of court orders, SHO Sunderbani Police Station has declined to register case against an alleged fraudster who is grabbing charity money from a Muslim shrine here.
Narrating their woeful tale, an Auqaf official Muhammad Rafiq said the money received as charity by a local shrine was being grabbed by a "fraudster", Ayoub Shah, who has illegally taken control over the funds collected by the shrine.
Rafiq said Auqaf had appointed Muhammad Yaqoob as caretaker of the shrine and that the latter was asked to take care of the funds received at the shrine. Rafiq said everyday the shrine used to get revenue of around Rs 1,000 to 1,500 from devotees.
But the "fraudster", through use of force took control at the shrine and started grabbing the charity money given by devotees and utilized it to raise personal fortunes. The locals said the accused even beat Muhammad Yaqoob who was officially authorized to be the caretaker.
The Auqaf officials said finding large scale bungling in the funds collected at the shrine, they approached SHO Sunderbani Police Station, Ravinder Parihar, and submitted an application, seeking action against the accused.
But the SHO, as per the complainants, kept dilly-dallying the registration of the FIR.
By now devotees started saying that SHO was hand in glove with the accused and thus was safeguarding his interests.
As the SHO declined to register FIR, the Auqaf officials moved Court to narrate their woeful take of "fraud and police highhandedness." The court of Munsif directed the SHO Sunderbani to register case.
But till now the police has been reluctant to register the case against the accused.
Accusing the police of being party to money grabbed by the fraudster, the area locals said accused the SHO of "unleashing terror of corruption in the area."
"From being silent over crimes like thefts to siding with fraudsters, this police station is turning infamous for many odd things," the devotees told Early Times.
"If the police declines to honor Court orders than what is left for we the unheard?" the people asked.
Despite repeated attempts the accused or the SHO could not be contacted for comments.
The Senior Superintendent of Police Rajouri Sulaiman Chowdhary recently told Early Times that he was new to the posting and that we will look into the public complaints in the coming days.
