GHSS Rabta launches 'Earthian Project' | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 25: Government Higher Secondary School Rabta today organized one day orientation programme to launch 'EARTHIAN' Project in the school on the themes, "Water and Sustainability" and " Biodiversity and Sustainability" under the technical guidance of Dr. CM Seth an eminent environmentalist. The programme was organized by the school with the support of Centre of Environment Education and Training (CEET) India, J&K and CEE Ahmedabad. As per press release, Ashok Kumar Dogra Principal of the school welcomed the guests and resource persons on the occasion. While speaking he said that the school is located on the extreme end of Jammu district and is backward in all respects. He said that villages Rabta and Mathwar are rich in traditional knowledge and practices. He said that we should try to preserve this rich Dogra cultural and natural heritage. He said that school has volunteered to take part in EARTHIAN project and which shall be completed in one month. Each project shall be guided by two teachers Rajni Devi of Environment science and Miss Roopali Sharma of English subject with a group of twelve students. After completion of projects, these will be submitted for national competition and award of best project by CEE Ahmedabad and WIPRO Bangalore. Dr. CM Seth patron CEET launched the project in the school. He said that village Rabta, Mathwar and adjoining villages are rich in Biodiversity and is the home of rare medicinal plant Harad (Terminalia chebula) which has been protected by villagers since centuries and is a source of livelihood. This village is a typical example of sustainability through preservation of biodiversity and preservation of valuable economic tree species. He also said that next generation should learn from the old wisdom of rain water conservation by constructing ponds and meet the requirement of water in villages at time of crisis. |
