Early Times Report

Kishtwar, Oct 25: Police claimed to have solved a double murder case and arrested two persons including the wife of the victim and brother of main accused while four other accused were still at large and police had launched a manhunt to arrest them.
The double murder took place on October 23 night at Barri Marmat which falls under Assar police station.
As soon as police received the information, a police party led by SHO of Police Station Assar, Inspector Farooq Ahmed Khateeb immediately reached the spot.
During the course of investigation, police got suspicious of Reenu Devi. During her sustained questioning, she confessed to have murdered her husband Sham Lal and 80 year old father-in-law Sunito Ram, son of Gaddu Ram, in connivance with Om Parkash, son of Chuni Lal of Barri, and four others, police sources alleged.
After killing them, they hid their bodies in a natural cave and covered them with dry woods and tree leaves. Police recovered both the bodies, foiling their attempt to set them on fire, sources said.
Police have registered a case in this connection under sections 302, 450 and 201 of RPC. When contacted, DKR DIG Nisar Ahmed said the investigation of the case was still in progress. Only after proper questioning of the accused, the real motive behind the double murder would be ascertained, he added.
Meanwhile the sources termed extra marital relationship as the motive behind the double murder. Sources said locals had informed police that several people used to visit the house of the accused lady in the absence of her husband.
A senior police officer who visited the spot said the accused lady, who allegedly had an extra martial relationship with the other accused, first gave some sedative to her husband and later call the other accused persons who overpowered them and killed him by hitting him several time with an axe. When her husband's father tried to raise hue and cry, the accused killed him too, sources alleged.
They later took the bodies to an isolated place by the taking the advantage of darkness and buried them in a natural cave in a 50 ft deep gorge. The woman is the mother of three children.
The officer said Om Parkash was the cousin of Sham. The other alleged accused included Des Raj, brother of main accused, Jagdish Raj and Sanjay Kumar, both sons of Suram Chand of Seri, Bhadarwah. Sanjay, according to police, has a criminal record and is the brother-in-law (jijja) of Om Parkash.
He said so far police had arrested Reenu and Des Raj. Om Parkash had also unsuccessfully contested last parliament elections.
