BJP has no moral right to criticise PDP
Dividing Pir Panchal
10/25/2016 11:29:56 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 25: BJP has during the past three days criticized the PDP and asked it to mend its ways so that no harm was done to the unity and integrity of Jammu province that is located between Lakhanpur and Pir Panchal.
It is not a small time BJP worker who had criticized the PDP and its ministers, saying they must refrain from using such terminology as Pir Panjal Valley and Chenab Valley. It is the chief spokesperson of the state BJP who had criticized the BJP.
Only the other day BJP spokesperson issued a press note that asked the PDP to refrain from making any statement that was against the unity and integrity of Jammu province. It also urged the state government of which the BJP is a part not to use terms Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal Valley in any official handouts.
He, inter-alia, said: "The BJP has taken strong exception to efforts to change the nomenclature of regions and areas of the state from their historical names. The efforts are a deliberate attempt to engineer a divide between the people on the basis of religion and region. The use of these names by ministers and politicians of the alliance partner is alarming. Use of terms Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal Valley could give rise to suspicion in the minds of the people of Jammu region about efforts to divide it. Jammu is one region which has a composite culture of which all the people of Jammu are proud. Any effort to divide the Jammu region on lines of region and religion would be opposed".
The BJP took exception to the attempt of the state government and PDP ministers to identify the erstwhile Doda district as Chenab Valley and Ponch-Rajouri-belt as Pir Panchal Valley.
The BJP has no moral right to criticize the PDP and the PDP ministers. They are within their right to use such divisive terms as Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal Valley, though there exist no such Valleys anywhere in Jammu province. Pir Panchal is a strategic mountain range that forms a wall between the two provinces of Jammu and Kashmir and the erstwhile Doda district, Poonch and parts of Rajouri district are located in this Pir Panchal mountain range.
The BJP's national general secretary Ram Madhav endorsed these terms while negotiating terms of alliance between the PDP and the BJP and these terms form part of the PDP-BJP agenda of alliance.
For example, the agenda of alliance says that the PDP-BJP government will "restructure and strengthen the Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited". It also says that the government will "earmark 2 per cent of revenues from hydro power for the development of the Chenab region". Similarly, it says that the state government will "set up a new specialized high tech IT park and Bio tech parks in Jammu and Pir Panjal".
To say that the BJP has not read the agenda of alliance would be too much. The BJP leaders know everything and still they are castigating the PDP for no fault of theirs. The BJP needs to rethink. It can't fool the people who are fully aware of the wrongs the BJP has committed.
