Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 27: With 24 school buildings set ablaze in Kashmir valley during the three months of agitation, the a top Cop (Law and Order), on Thursday said that police is identifying the miscreants behind this act and all station house officers (SHOs) have been directed to nab the culprits.
"I want to inform you that police have detained around 15 people involved in the torching incident of two Sumo vehicles in Parimpora of Srinagar and the mysterious fire in some areas of the city. I have directed all the SHOs to identify and book the culprits behind burning of schools in the Valley," the Cop told Early Times.
The top Cop warned that nobody will be allowed to take law in his hands. "Some miscreants in Srinagar and other parts of the valley are continuously taking law and order in their own hands. I would like to inform that they would not be given free hand to disturb law and order," he said.
In the last two days, four government schools have been set ablaze in mysterious circumstances in Srinagar city, Anantnag, Bandipora and Baramulla districts.
On Wednesday night, a state-run school was torched in Pattan in Baramulla district.
In south Kashmir's Kulgam district, unknown persons have set ablaze seven schools taking the advantage of the unrest. "It's a mystery. The miscreants are setting schools on fire during night.
The police are on the hunt to nab these miscreants who don't want children to go to school. It is a catastrophe. It is a holocaust," said an official.
Sources said that police have been now asked to keep vigil on schools. "The schools will take years to rebuild the infrastructure; thousands of students are enrolled in these schools. It will impact the overall schooling of the children," said an official of the Education Department.
