Sunderbani Police books poor villagers in fake case
Victims threaten suicide

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 27: In yet another case of alleged lawlessness in Rajouri district, in a bid to save some "influential goons" enjoying patronage in the corridors of power, the police have filed a case against poor peasants whose comrade was attacked last month.
The victims have threatened suicide and made clear that the onus of any such eventuality would lie on the concerned SDPO and SHO Sunderbani.
Witnesses said in September a group of goons wielding influence in Sunderbani attacked a group of poor peasants who resisted to the "Gunda Raaj."
The poor persons, at once rushed to the police station to get a complaint registered against the goons, who have "unleashed terror in the area and were involved in land grab and other crimes."
Though the SHO Sunderbani Police Station, Ravinder Parhiar and SDPO Nawaz Chauhan had assured of action, there came a twist in the story after around a fortnight.
The poor people including Rajender Kumar son of Krishen Lal, Shiv Nath son of Chattu Ram and Joginder Pal son of Dhani Ram, who had earlier visited the police station to file complaint against the goons were shocked to know that police has registered a fake FIR against them. Officials said the FIR was filed on September 9, 2016 vide number 65 under section 341 and 323. When the poor people tried to object to this injustice, they were threatened of dire consequences.
The area locals, who came out in support of the victims said the police was "resorting" to Gunda Raaj and that the concerned SHO and SDPO, already under scanner for poor performance and rising crime graph, enjoy "patronage" of a Cabinet minister.
"If he (SHO) doesn't enjoy political patronage why would he continue to rule Sunderbani when he has been unable to crack even a single case of burglary and asks complainants of theft cases to go and themselves catch hold of thieves… This is sheer nepotism and DGP must look into the matter," said a delegation of locals.
Meanwhile the victims, who called on at the Early Times office here said, they would commit suicide if the government fails to come to their rescue.
"Onus of any such incident will lie on the SDPO Sunderbani, Nawaz Chauhan and the SHO Sunderbani, Ravinder Parihar," the victims said.
"We are so poor that we cannot manage two square meals a day and police wants to kill us through this mental torture of fake FIR. We are being left with no options but to commit suicide," the victims said.
The SDPO Sunderbani recently threatened Early Times not to dare or call him or that he would file fake FIR against the newspaper.
