3 days on, department fails to douse flames | Pahalgam forests on fire | | Saahil Suhail Early Times REport Anantnag, Oct 27: From past three days, Hamnadi forests falling under the jurisdiction of Mattan Range of Lidder Forest Division are on fire. A spot visit reveals that fire has turned Lakhs worth 'green gold' into ashes and has affected the nearby wildlife area adversely. According to locals, wildfire broke out in compartment Number 55 in Hamnadi Saller forests on Monday evening due to alleged human interference. "Forest area is on fire since Monday and department Seems uninterested in dousing the flames," a local resident while returning from the fire affected forest told. Spot visit reveals that fire has damaged a vast forest cover, which is other side of Awoora wildlife sanctuary, a habitat of many rare spices including endangered Hangul. A group of employees in village Hamnadi pretended to have returned from other area of forest, which according to them was also on fire. "We worked hard to douse the flames in last two days, fire is now under control," employees told when asked why they weren't dousing the fire. Forest Fire has so far damages number of trees and rare spices of plants having medicinal value. Locals told Early Times that they suspect some miscreants in nexus with the employees have put the forests on fire. Chief Conservator of Forest, South Kashmir, Irfan Rasool assured action, "I will check it," Rasool responded to a text message about the forest fire. |
