Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 29: Inaugurated by former Congress Minister, the park of the JK Housing Board in Channi Himmat is becoming victim of the apathy of the incumbent MLA who is from the rival BJP.
The park which serves as the lungs of the posh Chhani Himmat locality is fast deteriorating and fast becoming a picture of neglect and apathy of the concerned department. The toilets constructed in the corner of the park are filthy and stinking , small water showers installed in the park for watering grass and plants are lying defunct due to poor maintenance, the lights installed at the parks are either broken or not working properly and wild grass has come up at most places.
Besides the indifference towards its maintenance, the park has become save heaven for the gamblers, rowdies and stray dogs and cattle.
The residents under the banner of Morning Walker Association warned that they will block National Highway (Bypass road Kunjwani to Nagorta) if concern authority continues to neglect the park and did not make proper arrangements for its timely maintenance and upkeep.
Ruing poor maintenance of the park, President of Morning Walker Association Channi Himmat VK Nanda alleged that the concern authority had almost abandoned the park. Despite huge hardship of residents, the authority had compelled to establish park now it has taken the shape of a garbage bin. "Instead of providing better environment to the residents, it has become a health hazard and no one is bothered for its bad condition, "Nanda said.
"Polythene bags and waste material can be seen strewn all over the park and Housing Board has failed to maintain the park," Vice President of the Association JK Gupta said adding "Defunct fountain speak volumes of utter neglect by the authority and almost all lights are broken by the miscreants".
Expressing concerns over the situation of the parks, General Secretary of the Association Subhash Gupta said the open check valve is filled with garbage it has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and flies and there is long and dense grass all around. The seriousness of concern authority can be gauged from the fact that two dustbins have been provided which are filled with garbage from last many months but no one visited there to pick garbage from them.
Emphasizing on its maintenance, Sushila Gupta said, Jammu and Kashmir Bank has set an example by adopting Rajinder Park, situated along with Ranbir Canal, which has got lush green grass and green trees in the park and there is proper lighting that makes the park glow during night.
