JAMMU, Dec 8: Despite convincing win against Puducherry in their third and last league tie today, Jammu and Kashmir could not make it to the knock-out stages of quarterfinals in the ongoing 62nd National School Games Under-19 Football, organized by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), here. With the completion of league round today, top eight teams from as many groups have made it to the quarterfinals stage. These teams are Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, KVS, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. Now, the quarterfinals have been scheduled for tomorrow at 10 am, followed by the semifinals in the post lunch session. In the quarterfinals, Punjab shall meet Chandigarh at University of Jammu ground while Rajasthan has been pitted against Uttar Pradesh at GGM Science College. Similarly, Chattisgarh shall play against KVS at MA Stadium and Tamil Nadu shall take on Jharkhand at BSF Stadium, Paloura. It was tough to decide the winner of pool-D between last year's runners-up Maharashtra and KVS was decided through toss. Since both the teams tied on wins and goal average so it was decided by the technical committee to hold toss to find pool winner. And, in the process, Maharashtra lost the toss.
Earlier, in the league matches, played today, host Jammu and Kashmir defeated Puducherry by three goals to two in a well fought game, but failed to qualify for the quarterfinals stage as Rajasthan topped the Pool with all three wins. For J&K, Sahil scored two goals in 36th and 56th minutes, while, Aftab netted another one in 52nd minute. M. Hariharan and B. Vignesh were the goal scorers for Puducherry in 37th and 44th minutes respectively. Haryana defeated IPSC by a solitary goal (1-0) and the lone goal came through Neeraj in the 51st minute. In another match, played at MA Stadium, Delhi thrashed Daman Diu by 3-0. Raman, Rudraksh and Suryaman netted the ball in the second, 14th and 29th minutes respectively. Uttrakhand also won their beating Vidya Bharti 7-0. Zeeshan Ansari was star performer, who scored three brilliant goals, while Ankit Gusai, Manik Sah, Kamlesh Singh and Mohd Sharukh netted one apiece each. Jharkhand held Delhi to goalless draw in the fourth match played at MA Stadium. At Jammu University ground, Lakshdeep got better of DAV by three goals to nil. Mesulua, Afridi and Mohd Sihana pelted the goals in 20th, 38th and 50th minutes respectively. In another match at JU ground, Karnataka defeated Telangana 2-1. For Karnataka, Sahil and Roxan scored the goals in ninth and 56th minutes respectively, while Sriram reduced the margin from Telangana. In yet another match at Jammu University ground, Chandigarh beat Telangana by three goals to nil (3-0).
At GGM Science College ground, Puducherry defeated CBSE by four goals to nil (4-0). F Senthanil pelted 3 goals in 14th, 25th and 37th minutes, while B Vignesh scored the goal in 34th minute.
