Srinagar, Dec 8: Person's past record cannot be eroded, come what may. Same is happening with National Conference president and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah. While his recent remarks about support to Hurriyat's cause created stir within JK's political spectrum, his statement of aspiring to become the President of India one day, is coming to fore.
As Farooq is singing praises for Hurriyat and militant sympathizers in Kashmir, on June 12, 2000, it was the same Farooq who ridiculed them while terming the agents of Pakistan.
In a detailed interview to a New Delhi-based magazine on June 30, 2000, when he was the CM of JK, Farooq had said that militants were directly funded by Pakistan and that they had to show their presence on ground so that their bosses in Pakistan could know that they are active.
Then in the next question, Dr Farooq spoke his heart out. He said that he is aspiring for the post of India's Foreign Minister and then would want to become the President of India. "I don't want to be here (in Jammu and Kashmir) permanently. I'm making my moves towards Delhi. I want to become Foreign Minister of India one day and then President of India," Farooq had said in the interview.
A decade later, he told Aap Ki Adalat that he wants to become the President of India. While he was asked about the less important union ministry given to him, Farooq kept playing with the words.
When asked whether he still is aspiring to become India's President, Farooq said with high pitch "Insha-Allah. Once I perform better in the new and renewable energy, I will become the President of India one day."
Farooq continued, "One day I will leave all this and will stay in Rashtra Pati Bhavan and will sit on President of India's chair."
Then one in the audience questioned Farooq about his unnatural aspirations that hover between becoming CM of JK to being accorded the post of India's president. To this the NC chief admitted that he is ambitious and everyone should be like him.
Meanwhile, as time passed and the NC patron felt how he is losing faith among the masses, his shift in stand turned evident. From aspiring to become India's Foreign Minister to extending support to Hurriyat Syed Ali Geelani in his anti-India rebellion, Farooq has proved that his chances of staying in Rashtrapati Bhavan aren't meagre but gone forever.
