Sleuths from PDD seize 45 heaters, 15 boilers during nocturnal raids
1/10/2017 11:17:22 PM
Early Times Report

Kishtwar Jan 10: During surprise/nocturnal raids conducted under jurisdiction on 250 KW Sub Station Akhyarabad at around 8.00pm, a team of Power Development Department (PDD) under the leadership of AEE Kishtwar Sudher Sharma seized atleast 45 heaters and 15 raw boilers from various houses and damaged them on spot.
According to PDD officials, this action by the field staff is a final resort against habitual offenders who have forced the department to dare to come out in cold evening to check brazen misuse of electricity gadgets which not only inflict damage to the power equipments but also leave the department with no other option but to effect unscheduled curtailments.
"When people are misusing the electronic appliances, the power cuts becomes unavoidable making common people to suffer hardship, he said, "During the raid, a house owner was found to have used 08 heaters at a time with boilers which surprised the officials team.
"This shows the level of insensitivity of our so called educated people, the official said.
An official said that the raid will remain continue in coming days as well and at the same time made an appeal to the people to refrain from use of cooking heaters especially during peak hours as the LPG Cylinders are being made available on demand for the people. They also said that low cost appliances with low power consumption including geysers available in market could be used instead of home-made heaters that cause massive damage to the power system.
"We appeal to our civilized society to kindly don't force us to put public to discomfort---- please use power honestly and ask your tenants to get their connections within two days failing which the load will be recorded in the name of house owner for power usage accounting, "said AEE Kishtwar while talking to Early Times.
He said meters if found tampered/bypassed will also invite fine and registration of case under section 95 of JK Electricity Act 2010.
