Compensate Amarnath agitation victims: Speaker to Govt
1/11/2017 12:06:22 AM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 10: After facing resentment in Jammu region for maintaining silence over Kashmir centric decisions and government announcing Rs 5 lakh and job as compensation for the Next of Kin (NoKs) of those killed in 2016 Kashmir unrest, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) woke up on Tuesday and demanded compensation for the NoKs of Amarnath agitation victims.
The BJP state president Sat Sharma while speaking in Legislative Assembly today said that Government should compensate the NoKs of those who were killed and injured in Amarnath agitation in 2008.
The Speaker Kavinder Gupta took a serious note about the issue raised by Sharma and directed the Government to consider compensation to the NoK of those who lost their lives or were injured during the Amarnath land row agitation during 2008 as was promised by the then government.
The Speaker also called for reviewing and withdrawing the cases against those arrested during the agitation. He said representatives of various organizations have met him from time to time and sought his intervention in the matter to provide justice to the sufferers of the agitation.
