Jammu, Jan 11: First Additional Sessions Judge, Jammu, M A Chowdhary has rejected the bail application of two alleged heroin smugglers.
Farooq Ahmed Dar and Mehmood Ahmed, sons of Talib Hussain of Dheri Dabsi near Mendhar in Poonch, had applied for bail, but the court rejected their applications.
According to the police case, cops stopped a Tata Sumo (JK22/7655) and a Santro car (JK01/3740) near Jewel on September 17, 2016 for checking. Farooq and Mehmood were travelling in Tata Sumo along with Liaqat Ali, son of Mohammad Qasim, and Mohammad Shabir, son of Mohammad Sharief, both residents of Lanjot near Balakote, Poonch. 265 gms of heroin and a cash of Rs 2.10 lakh were allegedly recovered from them.
253 grams of heroin and Rs 90,000 in cash were allegedly recovered from Akhlaq Khan, son of Mohammad Yaqoob of Kotli Kalaban, Rajouri, and Mumtaz Ahmed, son of Mohammad Showkat of Salwah Mendhar, who were travelling in Santro car.
A case was registered against them at Nowabad police station under section 8/21/22 of NDPS Act.
"Drug abuse is a complex phenomenon, which has various social, cultural, biological, geographical, historical and economic aspects. It has led to a detrimental impact on the society. It has led to increase in the crime rate. With most drug users being in the productive age, the loss in terms of human potential is incalculable, causing damage to physical psychological, moral and intellectual growth," the court said.
With these observations, the court rejected the bail applications of the accused. (JNF)
