Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 20: The callous attitude of concerned authorities of Chest Diseases Hospital Jammu can be gauged from the fact that the Sleep Study Lab has been rendered dysfunctional for last many years, forcing patients to visit private diagnostic centres or outside of the State where the facility is available.
According to experts, the Sleep Study Lab also known as a polysomnogram, records brain waves, heartbeats and breathing as you sleep. It also charts eye movements, limb movements and oxygen in the blood. This data helps the doctors to make a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan, informed a GMC doctor.
Senior doctor told Early Times that the Sleep Study Lab installed at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH)'s Chest Diseases Hospital Jammu to diagnose as well as study the disease with cost of nearly Rs 10 lakh to 15 Lakhs but within few years the machine had gone out of order. The equipme
could be repaired before ending its life but now there is required new one due to which the patients are running from pillar to post since the same was out of order.
Sleep Study Lab in CD hospital is defunct for several years. Patients go out for the vital test.
"But interestingly due to lethargy approach of concern authority the machine is lying dysfunctional so far, "he added.
He further added that the requisition to install new Lab has been sent a number of times to higher ups of the concern department through administration of the GMCH Jammu, yet the authorities are not paying any attention towards the issue. Owing to uncaring attitude of concern, the patients, who are advised to undergo Sleep Study, are being forced to visit out of the state.
When contacted Medical Superintendent of CD Hospital Dr Yash Pal confirmed the machine is lying dysfunctional for last many years and claimed that the payment for installation of new one has been released by the administration. He also said it will be installed within one or two weeks.
