Mehbooba unprepared to fall prey to Omar's dig
3/21/2017 12:20:29 AM
Appointment of Yogi Adityanath as
Chief Minister of UP seems to have sent tremors to the muslim dominated Kashmir valley though as far as UP is concerned it is over 1,000 Kms away from Srinagar. Hence there should have been no cause for alarm for Kashmir centric political leaders. However if not all Omar Abdullah of National Conference is bothered over the installation of Yogi Adityanath as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh where the muslims contribute over 18 per cent population. National Conference (NC) working President Omar Abdullah has criticized Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti by saying: "Your friends and allies have chosen a man who called for the dead bodies of Muslim women to be raped as CM."In an apparent referral to the Muslims of UP, the former Chief Minister said 18 per cent (or there about) of the population of India's most populous state must be terrified of what the future has in store for them. In a series of tweets, Abdullah expressed disappointment and anguish over appointment of Yogi Adityanath as the Chief Minister of the most populous state, Uttar Pradesh As senior political leader Omar should have known it better than anybody else that a coalition partner of the PDP is not consulted while finalizing the name of one MLA who will be installed as Chief Minister. Mehbooba was not consulted when Manohar Parrikar was Installed as Chief Minister of Goa. Mehbooba was not consulted when Rawat was inst alled as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
This way when under an alli ance with the Congress Omar Abdullah was installed as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir in 2008 neither the then UP Chief Minister or any Chief Minister of any state was consulted for seeking their approval before the final selection of Omar as Chief Minister. There is no doubt that the Yogi is a controversial politician and has been a child of controversies. Yes,he is a staunch supporter of Ram Mandir to be built and is the least secular face in the BJP. But let one wait for his role as Chief Minister. As a politician and as a Chief Minister the roles of even a diehard communalist gets reversed. As Chief Minister the Yogi has to run the Government and not run the party he belongs to. If Omar Abdullah reads between the lines the outcome of the recent Assembly election in UP he may come to the conclusion that a sizeable number of muslim voters too have voted in favour of the BJP candidates. Without support from the muslim voters it would have not been easy for the BJP to win 312 seats out of total of 403 seats. The support of muslim voters is the product of a revised opinion of muslims about the BJP. These muslim voters in UP have a feeling that BJP under the command of Narendra Modi is a restructured organization.
Omar wishes for the impossible. He wants Mehbooba to snap ties with the BJP on the issue of installation of the Yogi as Chief Minister of UP. But Mehbooba is not the politician who gets influenced or surcharged over non-issues. Yes, Yogi Adityanath does not carry an image of a political saint nor does he has the image of a secular politician. But it is a disservice to the Yogi if one passes a judgement before he is settled down. There are reports that the RSS and the VHP have mounted pressure on the BJP high command in favour of the Yogi's installation as Chief Minister of UP. Whether the RSS and the VHP prove right or wrong depends on the way the Yogi delivers his day to day decisions. The BJP has returned to power in UP after a gap of 15 years and it is not prepared to further away this opportunity and that is the reason that the BJP high command has delivered a s ingle message to the Yogi. Behave or quit. Hence there is no other way for the Yogi to amend his past doings and statements. As chief Minister he has to woo people belonging to various communities.
