JAMMU, Apr 17: The government has not stood by its transfer policy as 'munshis', who are presently working in nearly half a dozen police stations of Jammu, have never been shifted outside the district.
Owing to alleged corruption and other vested interests, they have become so rooted to their present places of posting that they simply don't want to leave.
"They are not only close to their SHOs, but also to senior police officers who use their influence to make sure that they are not transferred to other districts or far off places," police sources alleged.
"In four police stations of Jammu South, while SHOs have been transferred from to time to time, munshis have never been touched. And, if pressure comes from somewhere for their transfer, they are simply shifted from one police station to another. They are considered well-connected and powerful in police circles," sources alleged.
"There are three munshis in Jammu North and Jammu Rural who have never been transferred outside their respective police stations. While one was promoted to the rank of ASI and posted as incharge of a police post some time back, he had preferred to do the job of a munshi. He is presently posted at an important police station of Jammu district," sources said.
A munshi posted in a police station of Jammu South has also not been transferred since long.
He belongs to Jammu. Posted in a police station of Jammu Rural, another munshi was shifted to other place some time back but he got his transfer order cancelled with a senior police officer's help, sources said.
