11/13/2017 10:33:12 PM
Early Times Report
MENDHAR, Nov 13: Continued dry spell in Poonch and other parts of Poonch districts has led to drying up of rivers, stream, wells and other sources of water which has become a cause of concern for not only the common masses but also for the farmers who are not able to irrigate their fields.
The district is witnessing a prolonged dry spell as there has been no rain since the last four months. Mendhar River flowing from Nar to Mendhar via Nakamnajhari , Harni River which comes from Gursai top to Harni river which comes from Kandi belt towards Mendhar and most of the other water channels have dried up," locals from different parts of the district informed. They further added that due to drying up of rivers and other water bodies, the farmers are not able to irrigate fields, while day to day works of the people, especially those residing near the rivers and other water channels are also getting affected due drastic decrease in water level. Almost half of the wells and other small sources of water have either dried up or their water level has reduced drastically which is a big cause of worry for the people," the residents of different areas said. Dry spell is also causing respiratory and other viral infections," medical experts said.
