Early Times Report
Anantnag, Nov 13: From last over five years the construction work of a school building in Hapthnard-Aishmuqam village of South Kashmir's Anantnag is continuing at snail's pace.
As per details available with Early Times, School which was established in 1958 as Primary School was upgraded in year 2013 as High School and accordingly government had released funds for constructing a fresh building for the school.
The task of constructing the school building was assigned to R&B department; however it has apparently failed to complete the construction work in stipulated time.
"A storey of the building was constructed a few years ago but the work on second storey hasn't been started yet," a local resident Ghulam Hassan Sofi told Early Times over phone.
"The status of building was same as it was before five years," he added.
"Accommodation problem is affecting the studies of children as during rainy season we have to keep some classes off as we don't have enough classrooms for the enrolled children," Nazir Ahmad Margary, a teacher said
He said that for about 250 students, school was just four functional classrooms. "We fail to give individual attention to students due to space crunch," he added.
Locals castigated state government and said that Hapthnard is one of the far flung belts of Anantnag district and has been left on the mercy of God by successive governments.
"R&B education department is putting the future of students at stake," they said.
Chief Education Office Anantnag, Ghulam Rasool Shah told Early Times that he has already took up the matter with R&B department and has been assured the construction of the building will be completed before 31st December.
He informed Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RAMSA) is funding the project.
An R&B department official said that they are going for re-estimation of the project as a self-help group who had bagged the contractor has failed to complete the work.
