Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 13: Under the table leadership of Jammu University Vice Chancellor Prof Ramji Dass Sharma, the higher-ups in The Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) have been lavishly spending not for the sake of students but for their own cozy comforts and pleasure for eyes.
Addressing the press-conference here today, Chief Jammu Youth Forum (JYF) Deepak Kumar said that air conditioners have been installed almost in each of room in the directorate of Distance. "In the old building of the directorate 22 air conditioners were installed, one is out of order", he informed and added that the Director of DDE have spent huge money for generators.
"In case of power cut in the campus, power from generators is being supplied to run ACs in the directorate", he said and added that over Rs 3.0 lacs are being spent annually as fuel expenses. He added those who are not entitled for AC office are enjoying cool office due prevailing anarchy in the University.
"Assistant Registrar, as per University of rules is not entitled for AC office, but have 1 ton AC", he said and added that the ACs remain running if there is no one in the office that too on generators. "A library has been set up at First floor in new building but there is no facility of AC for students, even the library has not power back up, and nor power from generators is being supplied in the library", he said and added that during power cuts it is difficult for the students to concentrate on their study in this humid conditions.
On the recent purchases in DDE, he further said "The furniture in DDE is still or lying unused despite of this director ordered fresh purchases, which is unethical and misuse of administrative powers vested in him. The purchases included High Back Revolving Chairs, Visitor Chairs, Centre Tables, almirah, ACs etc.
"The entire DDE building was renovated and purchases were made few years ago. Hence, there was no need to have new furniture but just to satisfy his ego; the director ordered these purchases. Not only this, he has ordered several other purchases too which are otherwise not required," he mentioned.
"PCP for UG programme started recently, but the mismanagement in DDE forced the students to wait for study material, which is still under printing with printers", he, adding that those who are participating in the PCP are repeatedly knocking the door of administration since last week of October. He added that in the absence of accountability in University, the students are being victimized.
