Jammu, Nov 13: Censure and shame have failed to deter Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association JKCA from repeated nepotism and favouritism in selection of state teams and while J&K team is mauled by its opponents mercilessly, the act of the JKCA is ruining many a budding careers. Shameful defeat of the J&K under 14 team at the hands of hosts Himachal Pradesh by over an inning and two hundred runs is just a reflection of complete lack of accountability within JKCA.
Sources divulged to ET that the state team was selected on the basis of peripheral consideration and the cricketing ability of the young players was completed overlooked. The team comprised of sons of bureaucrats, police officers, coaches and former cricketers who have been using their influence to get their undeserving wards in, at the cost of the deserving players. "Barring 4 to 5 players, rest of the lot was selected on extraneous considerations and the result is for everyone to see" said a parent, whose son was not included in the team despite extraordinary showing in trial. "Himachal Pradesh made 550 runs in single day at the loss of 4 wickets and J&K were 4 down for 30. It was a pitiful display by the sons of the influential" he added.
Sources divulge that the selection process in JKCA is controlled by a close relative of a former minister and he operates from behind the veil of a bunch of selectors who do little more than loyally abiding by his dictates. "The under table deals in selection process cannot be ruled out" he added. "In the current team, there are wards of influential people, who were picked only because of the influence of their parents" he added further.
One of the selectors, Dheeraj, when contacted said that he was not authorized to speak. "Please talk to Javed Sahb, I am not authorized to speak" he averred.
Meanwhile, in the ongoing match between J&K and host HP in Una, J&K were bundled out for 231 and 132 in reply to mammoth 550 posted by the hosts. This is not the first time that the JKCA has come under scanner for faulty selections, but despite widespread censure, nothing has changed in the association.
