"Ever since independence in 1947, we used to cultivate the land measuring more than 200 kannals which was our source of income for our generations to come, but the revenue officials in 1987 onwards, mutilated revenue records", these families told Early Times.
Early Times accessed the revenue and other related documents which revealed that, the then Addl Commissioner Kashmir, B K Runiyal was designated enquiry officer while as Mehraj-Ud Din Tehsildar was made presenting officer vide govt order no: Rev/Gaz/208 of 2003 dated 29-09-2003.
Sources said that, the land was illegally transferred to the scores of people, even who were not the legal heirs of this prime land including Bashir Ahmad Mir S/O Wali Mohammad Mir, Noor Mohammad Mir S/O Wali Mohammad Mir, Bashir Mir S/o Abdullha Mir (Pathwari) Ghulam Joo Kareem S/O Ghulam Rasool Kakroo, Abdul Majeed Tantray S/O Rehman Tantray, Mohammad Sadiq Wani S/O Ahad Wani and Malla Karim S/O Malla Sattar.
"These are few people who got illegal documents from the then revenue officials in Uri from 1947 to 1988 and used to get rent from the army stationed at Uri Brigade", said sources.
However sources said that some of the above mentioned persons are illegal occupants of land are not the actual residents of Uri, as Bashir Ahmad Mir S/O Wali Mohammad Mir is a resident of Poonch Rajouri, and Malla Karim was shown as a resident of Tangmarag.
