Early Times Report

Kathua, Dec 6: The coalition government of make tall claims for promotion of sports but the reality is different.
The Sports Stadium here at the District headqurter Kathua lacks necessary sports infrastructure.
The 'seriousness' of the state government to promote sports could be gauged from the fact that coaching staff for various sports disciplines have not been appointed at Sports Stadium, Kathua for more than a decade.
With the public representatives and the State Sports Council paying no attention towards basic need of arranging caches for various disciplines, the budding players are not only deprived of quality training but also not able to learn finer points related to any sport.
However, the spirit, morale and enthusiasm of trainee players remain intact even as they do not get training from an expert hand.
The players still come to the Sports Stadium, Kathua in the mornings and evenings regularly for their routine practice but their hardwork can not give fruitful results until and unless they sharpen their skills under the guidance of an expert coach.
Barring a male and a female coach for Judo and a part time coach for Kabaddi, who visits twice a week, the Sports Stadium, Kathua has no coaching staff for the disciplnes of Cricket, Hockey, Football, Volleyball, Gymnastics, Basketball, Wrestling, Handball, Skating and Kho-Kho.
The Stadium had coaches for Cricket, Football and some other discplines a decade back but after that the Sports Council never paid any attention to arrange coaching staff.
Not even a single meeting of the Council has held after the formation of state government under Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is also Chairperson of the Council. God Knows when the meeting of Council is held under the presidentship who is Chairperson, and the coaching staff for Sports Stadium, Kathua will be made available.
