Jammu, Dec 14: Division of Entomology, SKUAST-J, FOA, Chatha, today organized one day training programme under NABARD sponsored project entitled "Scientific intervention for validation and popularization of traps for management of insect pests in vegetable growing areas of Jammu Region". The training was organized at village Gango Chak area of Gajanasoo and attended by 50 local farmers.
Dr. Devinder Sharma, Principal Investigator of the project, discussed the scientific technologies for the management of insect pest problems in vegetables under the project and urged the farmers for practicising safe use of pesticides in managing the same. He urged the farmers to adopt organic pest management methods as due to indiscriminate use of pesticides, contamination of vegetables, ground water, soils, incidence and appearance of carcinogenic agents has been has been increasing at an alarming rate.
He stressed that through the use of eco-friendly trap based methods in cole crops, brinjal, tomato and cucurbits the pesticide load on these crops will be reduced. stressed the farmers to adopt organic farming which promotes and enhances agro-eco system of health including bio diversity, biological cycles and soil biological activity. The progamme was attended by officers from agriculture department V. K. Johar AEO, Marh, Simranjeet Singh (AEA), Nagesh Magazine (JAEO), Sarabjeet Singh (AEA), Naresh Raina (JAEO).
