KPS-2008 batch officers up in arms against government

Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 14: The Officers of Jammu and Kashmir Police Service (KPS)-2008 batch are up in arms against the state government for alleged discriminatory policy being followed by it vis-à-vis promotion and pay grade.
The officers alleged that the government is indulging gross discrimination with them in terms of salaries and promotions as against Kashmir Administrative Officer (KAS) colleagues.
"The height of the discrimination could be gauged from the fact that since the day of our appointment in 2008, neither our pay grade was hiked, nor any promotion was given," said KPS-2008 officers. They added that contrary to this, the KAS officers of the same batch are enjoying both benefits.
They said the 2008 KPS batch played an important role from time to time in maintaining law and order in Jammu as well as in Kashmir, as they had to experience agitations of 2008, 2010 and 2013, besides recent agitation of 2016.
"KPS officers, especially of 2008 batch played an important role in maintaining law and order during these agitations, besides remaining 24x7 alert with regard to their duties, but still the government is not recognising our duties," said officers, adding that despite all this no hike in basic pay grade nor any promotion was given.
They, however, clarified that they do not have any problem with promotion and hike in pay scale of KAS officers of the same batch.
"We want to make it clear that we do not have any problem with KAS officers. Here the purpose of mentioning their name is that we want to convey to the government that if they could draft a policy for KAS officers, why they cannot draft the policy for KPS officers also," -one of the KPS officers said and asserted that the major reason is KPS officers lack unity.
He said, KPS officers have no union as it is banned in Police Department, but that does not mean government will take KPS officers for granted.
Pertinently, the level of disparity between KAS and KPS officers can be gauged from the fact that SRO 386, which addresses all concerns of KAS officers is not applicable to State Police (Gazetted) officers.
