Intl Anti Corruption Day has no takers in J&K?
No program organized by SVC , SVO, SAC
12/14/2017 11:22:41 PM
Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 14: The insensitivity of the state administration towards worldwide tirade against menace of corruption can be gauged from the fact that even anti-graft bodies of the state, namely State Vigilance Commission (SVC), State Vigilance Organisation and State Accountability Commission (SAC) did not organize a single programme on international anti corruption day on December 9.
Jammu & Kashmir state has been ranked one of the most corrupt states in India by Transparency International India. In-spite of the fact that J&K state has several organisations which are working for eradication, and prevention of corruption but none of these organisations commemorated the International day against corruption.
Every year an estimated 1 trillion dollars are paid in bribes while an estimated 2.6 trillion dollars are stolen annually through corruption - a sum equivalent to more than 5 per cent of the global GDP. In developing countries, according to the United Nations Development Programme, funds lost to corruption are estimated at 10 times the amount of official development assistance.
ET had carried a detailed report on this issue last year as no official function was organized by Government, District administrations , Vigilance Organisation or Vigilance Commission consecutively from last 3 years . It was presumed that authorities will wake up , but unfortunately they again committed same blunder this year by not giving any respect to this day.
This shows the seriousness of these organizations in actually eradicating the menace of corruption from the state " said Dr Mustaq Khan Convener of J&K RTI Movement.
Pertinent to mention that United Nations' (UN) International Anti-Corruption Day aims to raise public awareness of corruption and what people can do to fight it. It is observed on December 9 each year.
