Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 14: On the hind side of attempts to keep the state of Jammu and Kashmir united despite all diversities within it, the State government has turned a blind eye to the attempt of one of its departments to alienate Kashmir from rest of the state in the name of heritage.
The advertisements issued by Directorate of Archives, Archeology and Museums speak of 'archeology and heritage' of Kashmir rather than that of Jammu and Kashmir, thereby alienating Kashmir from rest of the state. The advertisement highlights excavation sites of Kutbak and Burahama besides the tomb of Madin Sahib, but there is not even a mention of the heritage of Jammu or Ladakh in the advertisement.
The advertisement has been designed to highlight the rich cultural heritage of the state of J&K in the 19th General Assembly of International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOSMOS), but there was no mention of the monuments or archeological sites of Jammu or Ladakh. "The archeological site at Ambaran in Akhnoor, innumerable monuments depicting Dogra heritage or ancient Stupas of Ladakh have been completely ignored despite their immense significance in the heritage of the state" said an employee of the department, expressing his anguish over highlighting only Kashmir. "I am particularly annoyed over the criminal silence of the BJP in complete neglect of Jammu and Ladakh in such an important event" he said.
The practice of projecting Kashmir as entire Jammu and Kashmir is not new and state administration and the polity heavily loaded in favour of Kashmir for ages has been deliberately ignoring Jammu and Ladakh regions. "Whether it is a tableau in the Republic Day parade in the national capital, a calendar published by J&K Bank or any departmental publication, there is an attempt to project Kashmir as the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir and traditions, culture and heritage of Jammu and Ladakh are deliberately ignored" said Sudhir Trikha, a scholar in the university of Jammu. "It is a pity that Priya Sethi, who is the minister of state for culture also turned a blind eye to complete absence of Jammu and Ladakh in these advertisements" he added.
