Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 12: Srinagar: Supreme Court has dismissed plea by Ponnaiyah Ramajayam Institute of Science and Technology (PRIST) University against high court's verdict, disallowing degrees through distance mode from the PRIST varsity for government jobs in the state. "No ground for interference is made out in exercise of our jurisdiction under Article 136 of the Constitution of India," said a division bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Mohan M. Shantanagoudar and accordingly dismissed the SLP. In 2012, the state high court had dismissed all the writ petitions seeking directions to the government and the Services Selection Board for considering degrees issued by PRIST University. The government had maintained that for awarding M. Ed and B. Ed degrees, the PRIST University was to get permission from the National Council of Technical Education and SRE. It had argued that in 2009, a committee, constituted by the Government of India to assess the educational standards, had recommended government to derecognize the varsity. The SSB had already rejected certificates by the PRIST University, maintaining that the degrees were not genuine and acceptable |
