JAMMU, Jan 12: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday revealed that 3126 post of teachers are lying vacant in Kashmir Division of the state which include 2581 General line teacher posts and 545 vacancies of SSA Teachers, beside 1225 posts of lecturers are also vacant.
In reply to question of PDP MLA Abdul Majid Padder, the minister for Education Altaf Bukhari in a written reply stated that the summer capital, Srinagar, has most of the vacant posts of teachers which account at 717 including 661 general line teachers, followed by Anantnag with 596, Baramulla with 385, Pulwama with 302, Bandipora with 269 while Leh has lowest number of vacancies with 9 posts.
The government said that 1225 lecturer posts are also vacant in Valley in various disciplines under direct recruitment/promotion quota. "632 posts are that of promotion quota."
"Besides, 1059 posts of 10+2 lecturers of various disciplines under direct recruitment quota were referred to PSC in 2016 for selection," the government said. "Selection and appointment orders in respect of 915 candidates have been made."
Among these posts 167 posts are lying vacant in Urdu subject followed by Physics 112, English 107, Chemistry 104, Education 96, History 67, Sociology 54 are worth to mention.
The government stated that the proposal for introduction of new subjects including Commerce and Geography is under examination in the department added that after taking into account the need and demand for introduction of such subjects in Higher Secondary Schools including HSS D H Pora also.
