GMC&H's Neurology department suffers in absence of staff
Technicians' posts created in 2010, recruitment yet to start
1/24/2018 12:30:14 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 23: The Neurology Department of Government Medical College Jammu (GMCJ) has faced step motherly treatment in-terms of manpower as despite seven sanctioned posts, department has only one technician.
Sources informed Early Times that earlier the department had four post of Electro-encephalograph (EEG) technicians, one each for Government Medical College, Psychiatric Disease Hospital Jammu, Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital and Super-Speciality Hospital, Jammu (SSHJ) and later three posts including two post of EEG technician and one post of EMG (Electro Myo Graph) technician was created in 2010.
"But ironically, neither earlier posts of technicians were filled up, nor newly created posts were recruited so far, and as a result, the functioning of department is hit badly since long and the authorities of GMCJ are least bother about it", said sources.
It is pertinent to mentioned here that in the cabinet meeting which was held on 29/03/2010, the then government had published an order with vide order No: 223-HMEof 2010 dated 03/04/2010 regarding creation of 2093 posts including three each of EGM and EMG technicians to Government Medical College, Jammu and 2031 posts were advertised for Medical College, Srinagar.
"Except three posts of EEG and EGM technicians of Government Medical College Jammu, the whole process of recruitment has been completed by competent authority which shows step motherly treatment toward most important department which was functioning since the GMCJ came into existence", sources added.
Sources further said that owing to dearth of sufficient technicians, the machines worth Crores installed in GMCJ and its associated hospitals were either lying unused or single technician who has been deputed at Super Speciality Hospital, Jammu, has been manning all the machines of associated hospitals.
"After the superannuation of senior technician, Subash Tadyal on 31 December, 2017- the only manual machine of EEG which was installed in GMCJ is also lying idle forcing the patients to go private clinics", sources alleged.
However, to run these machines worth crores, the department of neurology should have ten expert technicians, two each for Government Medical College Jammu, Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh and Psychiatric Hospital Jammu and another four for two EEG machines, installed at Super Specialty Hospital, Jammu but presently only single technician was operating all the machines.
