Camera a necessary evil
Shiv Kumar Padha2/18/2018 11:04:14 PM
A camera is an optical device for recording or capturing an image, which may be stored locally, transmitted to another location or both. The images may be individual still photographs or sequences of images constituting videos or movies. The importance of the camera is not in the device itself, but in what it produces. Photographs and video have become vital to communication, education and preservation of history. It is by dint of camera that the present and the future generations can have the knowledge and information about historical incidence, geographical phenomenon, expeditions, explorations, inter planetary, inter satellite journeys, surveillance and, natural disasters. Everybody irrespective of economic status wants to catch the family memories on the celluloid.
Camera plays a vital roll during recording the social or religious congregations, marriage ceremony, national or religious festival, rejoicing moments in one's life, inaugurations of developmental works, distribution of relief, surveys during disastrous moments or live telecasts of matches.
No marriages pertaining ritual from betrothal, ring ceremony, jai mala till doli, can start until the team of the cameramen report. The preference is given to the cameramen over the clergymen who decide the right times for marriage rituals from lagans, sehrabandi, departure of barat, jai mala, kanya daan to farewell of the bride, according to the position of the constellations. The whole marriage affair is controlled and dominated by the feats of camera and its team. Where both the bride and bridegroom are clicked in such objectionable poses which sometimes surpass the close ups from the 'A' certificate films.
The elders from both the families watch these irking shooting sessions with their heads hanging in shame.
The relief and survey teams, comprising of political leaders, ministers and MLAs, do not start their official journey without the camera teams and the electronic media to cover the flood hit areas, aerial survey of damages due to natural disasters, famines, droughts and relief distributions.
The activities of surveys and relief distribution teams remain suspended till the camera teams report. In the event of development of some fault in the cameras or non availability of battery charging facilities, the tours and operations are suspended for days and nights till they restart functioning because no leader wants to start the relief, or the rescue operation un noticed, un clapped and un recorded in the camera memory even if the victims of the disaster succumb to huger, extreme hot and cold weather, to diseases and without clothing. The process of distribution of the meals to the starving, clothes to the naked, the medicines to the sick and tarpaulin for the homeless, is held up unless they are caught in the camera. The importance of the camera is felt more when one serves meals in the langars, distributes cash and articles of necessities among the poor under charity, when it is said that 'while giving charity through right hand the left hand should not have any knowledge about right.
These days the smart cameras equipped with the most advanced photography features is within the reach of common man, it is a pity that most of us feel proud in recording scenes of scuffles, quarrels ending with loss of life, gang rapes, suicidal attempts, burning the human lives alive and the most hatred inhuman act of shooting and recording one's curtain talk and private life stealthily instead of reporting the incidents to police. Taking selfies on the other hand on the speeding boats and trains, sliding areas and in the floods is nothing less than a suicide which is a crime and must be condemned as much as possible.
No doubt the camera is an indispensable device which can take different shapes in future but its use and importance will remain same forever. The use of CCTV and spy cameras in homes, schools, shops, hospitals, at public places is a great landmark in the history of dynasty of lens devices which has enabled the man kind curbing crimes and locating criminals. Nobody can deny about the importance of camera in daily life but man has become so accustomed to it that instead of becoming necessary the camera has become a Necessary evil for the mankind.
