Presence of Rohingya in Jammu has reached to an alarming stage
Ravinder Jalali3/19/2018 8:50:59 PM
With the latest revelations as per newspaper reports Rohingyas Muslims settled illegally in Jammy has now resorted to drug pedalling as well as girl trafficking besides the anti-national activities as assumed in Sunjwan terrorist attack on the army. These Rohingyas are settled around these military camps and are considered as providers of base for launching terrorist activities. Gauging from these incidents it seems that these Rohingyas are stretching their limits and have become more assertive and all these can not happen without the support from local people and political patronage especially Kashmir centric leaders who are more dominant in Jammu as compared to their counterparts in Jammu.
Recently there were reports of stone pelting on army installation at Sunjwan after the terrorists struck killing seven people which can not be ignored and is sufficient indication of involvement and radicalisation of Rohingya in such anti-national activities. This is not an ordinary incident and is part of a bigger conspiracy to derail Jammu from stability and bring it into the fold of militancy and terrorism.
In a recent case two Rohingyas Muslims namely Mohd. Abbas and Mohd. Ayub managed to escape and police feels helpless in nabbing then out which clearly indicates that Police have failed to monitor their day to day activities to check their involvement in illegal activities. It also proves beyond doubt that these Rohingyas are enjoying the support and patronage of Political parties notably the ruling PDP who they think that they will be their new voters in Jammu division which they need badly as they have less base in Jammu. The most tragic is the silence or the incompetence of BJP a Jammu based party who claims to be the guardians of the Jammu region fails to get them evacuated or deport them. Although BJP is voicing its concern and want these illegal immigrants out of state but seem to be helpless against PDP, their own coalition partner in their govt. They find themselves between devil and deep sea. Had they been in opposition they would have given number of Jammu bandhs and would have raised hue and cry but since they are from the Govt. at the centre as well a state they are in a dock. BJP is more responsible and accountable to the people of Jammu because they are representing the Jammu and can not absolve of its liability.
Now the Central Govt. has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that the Rohingyas are illegal immigrants and not refugees, now it is clear that these Rohingyas are to be deported outside India as early as possible. Any delay in their deportation may cause unnecessary problems in our Country as there are various anti-national organisations and elements who may encash on such issues or their own political ends and may do great harm to our country. The people and leaders, who advocate their case on international human rights conventions and norms, forget that they become hypersensitive on selective basis and ignore when their own people in their country face human rights violation. When the Rohingyas issue came up entire Muslim world stood by them though it is all lip service and fake sympathy. On one hand they show solidarity with them on the basis of religion but close their doors for them. This is the hypocrisy. These leaders should understand that no body did talk about Kashmiri Pandits when they were thrown out of their homes by the radicalised Islamists in a secular and democratic country.
Now the question arises why there is so much noise on Rohingyas and silence for other communities. Why other people living as refugees in India remain unheard by their own people? Why the blood of these so called Human Right activists boil for selective people who are not even the residents of our country where as they remain silent spectator to the agony and sufferings of their own country men? It seems that the religious bond seems to be much stronger than the national bond.
The plea filed by Rohingyas that they had taken refuge in India after being persecuted in their own country is totally baseless. There are two aspects to rohingyas problem. Firstly it is not true that they have been discriminated or persecuted. Secondly why should we bear the brunt of refugees from Myanmar? The fact of the matter is that these Rohingyas Muslims are not innocents who have been discriminated in their own country but are the sponsors and supporters of terrorism. Another important point is why our country should bear them. Ours is a poor country and they will be drain on our limited resources and our economy.
The issue of these refugees is not a new one. People and politicians who have vested interests are deliberately keeping the issue under carpet but fortunately or unfortunately the issue has come up again and needs serious debate and investigation at the state and central level keeping in view the sensitivity of the state and their easy radicalisation into terrorist groups launched across the border.
Here it is pertinent to mention that the Rohingyas are people from the Rakhine State of Myanmar, who reside mainly in Northern Arakan Township. During the Pakistan movement in the 1940`s, Rohingyas in western Myanmar organised a separate movement to merge the state with East Pakistan (Now Bangladesh. Rohingyas founded the Mujahid Party as a Jihadi Movement in Northern Arakan in 1947. The aim of Mujahid Party was to make Arakan as an autonomous Muslim State.
Some years back, an encounter in South Kashmir, one of the two foreign militants was identified as Chota Burmi, a native of Myanmar (Burma). His real name was Abdul Rehman al Arkun i.e. Abdul Rehman of Arakan, (a state of Myanmar). Chota Burmi alias Abdul Rehman of Arakan infiltrated into Kashmir in 2013. These Rohingya Muslim Refugees, who flee from Myanmar, are easy to fall prey to radicalisation of extremist groups like LeT, ISIS. This apprehension was expressed by me in earlier columns also and when the same news appeared in newspapers and its admission by the Chief Minister, it was no surprise. Intelligence agencies, as per the reports in the newspaper, has raised the issue with Ministry of Home Affairs and called for an immediate check of these Rohingyas from settling down in Jammu. These Refugees are helped by some NGOs in providing them the basic amenities and arranging to provide education to their children in Madras's. Sometime back it was reported in newspaper that one Bangladeshi who was arrested in 2014 while moving suspiciously near border has been sentenced to 2 years jail term
There are some NGOs including noted lawyer Prashant Bhushan who take the plea of International Human Rights convention and fundamental rights but these so called learned people forget that India is not a member of refugee convention and fundamental rights does not apply to illegal immigrants.
The strange and interesting feature is that Kashmir centric politicians and separatists are that they are extending all the help to these refugees and it was recently reported that these rohngyas are now in a position to form groups and approach the local politicians who extend their al the support of all kinds including people. PDP party is all to raise their issue and accompany them to DIG police to see heir people are protected and no action as per law of the land is taken against them. . The only connection between Rohingya refugees and Kashmir centric politicians and separatists is the religion.
It is the high time for the Govt., to tackle this issue on priority with out wasting any time before it will escalate at the point at which there is no return. The J&K Government has to explore all the avenues to see that they are deported as early as possible before it explodes in this sensitive border state which is facing militancy and such people poses a threat to the security of the state as well as country as a whole.
