For Edu Deptt, female teachers can neither marry in Jammu nor in Srinagar
3/24/2018 11:49:42 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 23: The Education department in J&K seems to have forgotten the laid down norms of the transfer policy for the female teachers in the state, with the authorities ignoring their woes.
The government on March 1, 2016 approved the transfer policy of female teachers under which the married female teachers were made eligible for transfer to the district where in they get married.
However, two years down the line, the policy has been left in shambles, with genuine cases gathering dust and kept pending by the people at the helm in the department of education, Civil Secretariat.
There are cases which have been duly scrutinised with proper documents and requisite formalities. However, despite all clearances and genuineness, the transfers of the female teachers have been kept in limbo without any reason.
According to several teachers seeking transfer on marriage grounds, their pleas have been kept pending despite all the documents and completion of formalities. "I am a General Line teacher with more than eight years of service. I have kids at home and I am married in Srinagar. I have submitted my application months ago in the department of Education and only after fulfilling all the criteria my case was sent to the secretariat for further action. However, months have passed but no action has so far been taken. I am suffering due to the worst situation I am entangled in. I was married in Srinagar and live here. To reach at the place of my posting, I have to board eight buses a day and reach home after the dawn. It is unnatural that my case isn't even being considered," a teacher said.
There were others who stated that Inter-District Transfers of the teachers in Jammu and Srinagar has been deliberately kept in abeyance without any reason by the higher authorities at the department of Education in Civil Secretariat. "We really wonder that if a teacher falls in general line category and has all the genuine documents of marriage in Srinagar or in Jammu, why the authorities are still reluctant in approving her case. The government should come clear about whether a teacher should get married in Srinagar or in Jammu so that she falls under the category of transfer policy," said a group of teachers who added that they will take up the matter with the Chief Minister and are seeking appointment with her in this regard.
They added that even after moving from pillar to post, they submitted al the requisite details and documents in the department of Education and their cases have been still kept in limbo without any reason. "We tried to meet the Education Minister who assured all his help and expressed concern over such dilatory mode of working in education department. However, he too seems to be helpless in front of the higher authorities of Education Department. It looks like it is not him who is running the department of school education- it is somebody else whose whip is working in a most ruthless way," said the aggrieved teachers.
