Early Times Report

BARAMULLA, Apr 21: Rehabilitation of Kashmir Pandits is confined to papers only-this is what the wterlogging cused by recent rains at Veerwan colony has proved.
We have been left at the mercy of God, as no official or authority from the district visits here to enquire about our problems. We feel isolated. It seems that we have been kept in barracks or sheds, said an inhabitant.
A resident said: "We gave number of representation to the concerned authorities but all in vain. Nobody is bothered to look after our problems. This exposes the rehabilitation of KPs in valley." He said that the condition of the colony was miserable. "From time to time, the GoI has sanctioned huge sum of money for KPs. Nobody knows where the sum is invested. It seems that the rehabilitation of KPs is on papers only while as fact of the matter is that ground level speaks a volume," said a local of VPC. Group of inhabitants from VPC said that the tin sheds have been covered with prefabricated sheets which makes us shiver due to cold during the rainy season.
The only purpose of these colonies is to grab the money in the name of rehabilitation, they said. It is pertinent to mention here that under the Prime Ministers Special Package of Employment for Kashmiri Pandits (PMSPEKP), almost 130 houses were rehabilitated here at Veerwan Pandit Colony in Baramulla district. The colony for Kashmir migrants was established in 2010 at Veerwan almost 5 kms away from the main town Baramulla, where almost 130 registered families are residing while as rest of the Panidt families are living outside of this colony in rented houses.
