NIA takes arrested militant to encounter site
Huge cache of arms recovered in Rajwar forests

KUPWARA, Apr 22: National Investigation Agency (NIA) team on Sunday took Pakistani militant who was arrested on April 6 to various locations including the site of gunfight from where he had escaped. Meanwhile a huge cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered in Rajwar forests of this north Kashmir district.
According to reports, NIA team arrived in the frontier district on Saturday and is waiting for legal formalities to shift the custody of the militant Zabiullah alias Hamzah son of Sonaullah, a resident of Multan, Pakistan.
A top police official said that the NIA took the militant and members of the army's concerned unit to the spot where the encounter took place on March 20.
The official said that it was not immediately ascertained whether the arrested militant was also taken to the spot near the Line of Control (LoC) from where the militant had infiltrated along with the other members of the group.
It is pertinent to mention here that the militant was injured in a gunfight that claimed 10 lives including five militants, three soldiers and two policemen at Check Fateh Khan of Haihama last month.
The militant had reportedly escaped in injured condition from the woods of Check Fateh Khan where gunfight raged for two days after starting on March 20.
The militant was apprehended during a cordon-and-search operation at Turshan area of Juktiyal on April 6.
Meanwhile in militancy related incident, army on Sunday claimed to have busted a militant hideout and recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition at Rajwar forests in Handwara area of this north Kashmir district.
A top army official said, "acting on specific inputs, a joint team of army's 21 RR, Handwara police, 92 Bn CRPF launched a cordon in Watsar forest area. During searches, a hideout of militants was busted and huge quantity of cache was recovered which include Pika- 01, Bazooka-01, Radio set Yaesu-01, Mor Rounds-06, Pika Ammunition- 940, Silencer -03, AK Magzine O6, IED Initiating Mechanism- 04, IED Explosive- O8 kg, UBGL Rounds 21, Hand Grenade- 01, RPG Rounds O4, Booster Rpg 15, Electric Detonator 20, Detonator Box 04 and Magazine Box."
The official said that a case has been registered and the investigation was taken up.
